Description:

Ammonium BiFluoride is a chemical compound formed from ammonium fluoride and hydrogen fluoride. The hydrogen fluoride molecules occupy spaces within the ammonium fluoride crystal lattice. It is a major component in glass-etching fluids, though sometimes potassium hydrogen fluoride is used as a replacement. Etching occurs due to the fluorination of silicon, as illustrated by the following reaction:

SiO2(s)+4[NH4][HF2](aq)→SiF4(l)+4[NH4]F(aq)+2H2O(l)\text{SiO}_2 (s) + 4[\text{NH}_4][\text{HF}_2] (aq) \rightarrow \text{SiF}_4 (l) + 4[\text{NH}_4]\text{F} (aq) + 2\text{H}_2\text{O} (l)SiO2(s)+4[NH4][HF2](aq)→SiF4(l)+4[NH4]F(aq)+2H2O(l)

Our Ammonium Bifluoride is extensively used in anodizing aluminum, wood preservation, and glass cleaning, etching, and pickling.
