1. Food Industry: Used as a leavening agent in baking. When it reacts with an acid (like vinegar or lemon juice) or is heated, it releases Carbon Dioxide ($CO_{2}$) gas, causing dough or batter to rise.

    

2. Water Treatment: Used to increase the alkalinity of water and stabilize pH levels in swimming pools and municipal water systems.

    

3. Agriculture & Animal Feed: Added to livestock feed (especially for cattle) as a rumen buffer to prevent acidosis and improve digestion.

    

4.  Fire Extinguishers: A key component in "Dry Chemical" fire extinguishers (Class BC), where it releases $CO_{2}$ to smother flames.

    

5.  Personal Care & Pharma: Used as an antacid to treat indigestion, a mild abrasive in whitening toothpastes, and an ingredient in effervescent bath salts.
